Attracting a Mouse
This is part of the Mechanics of MouseHunt series of articles, go here for the main article.
Once a mouse has been encountered it is time to determine if the mouse is attracted to the hunter’s trap.
Each cheese has a hidden attraction rate for each location, this is something we can only determine from observation of how well a cheese attracts mice in that location.
If the cheese fails to attract the mouse on it’s own, then the hunter gets another chance to attract a mouse based upon the Attraction Bonus of the trap. The attraction bonus is more of a benefit when the hunter is using cheese with poor attraction rates (such as cheddar), and much less useful when the hunter is using cheese with a high attraction rate (such as SUPER|brie+).
If either of these stages successfully attracts the mouse, then the trap may catch the mouse.
Should a mouse fail to be attracted to the trap, there is a possibility that the hunter’s cheese will go stale.

“If the cheese fails to attract the mouse on it’s own, then the hunter gets another chance to attract a mouse based upon the Attraction Bonus of the trap.”
I think a recent Dev video revealed that the Attraction Bonus of a trap works directly on the (hidden) “power” of the cheese.

Weyr, my interpretation of what was said was that they have hidden the percentages and replaced those with descriptions of how effective the cheese is, but those percentages are still in the game, rather than having been replaced with a “power” as such.
Ah right I have to revise my statement. Then the Attraction Bonus of a trap works directly on the hidden percentages of the cheese, effectively boosting the attractiveness of the cheese.
interesting article…
but I have one question.. does boosting attraction rate will attract rare mice more often or only will you have less FTA, and more REGULAR mice?
for example, gnarled cheese attracts hydra every now and then… if say, I maximize my attraction rate by only putting the best trap and base for the stats of attraction but keep using gnarled… wil the hydra be attracted more often??
I appreciate any answer.. thx
I don’t believe that increasing your attraction rate specifically attracts more of the rarer mice, just more mice in general, so you will see more of the rarer mice, but also more of the common mice.
Hope that helps.
