Calm Clearing

Calm Clearing

Tucked behind the dense trees of Whisker Woods is a quiet and peaceful clearing. In the center of the clearing is a glowing boulder with colourful fungi growing around it. The magic rock seems to draw mice near to it, as if empowering them.

Overview

The Calm Clearing is the first location in the Whisker Woods region, and offers a host of new mice for the hunter to catch.
Most of the mice here are quite weak, but there are a few stronger mice here.
Treant mice in this location often drop a decent amount of Splintered Wood as loot, this is useful for crafting the Dehydration Base and is also required later on in the game.
The Cyclops mouse in this location is one of the toughest mice to be found here, but it drops the map to the Great Gnarled Tree.
Hunters can also collect Cherry Potions in this location in order to hunt for the Cherry Mouse.

Requirements

To hunt in the Calm Clearing a Hunter must have:
A Hunter’s Title of at least Journeyman.
The Whisker Woods Clearing Map Piece from a Granite Mouse in the Harbour.
And it is recommended that a Hunter should have:
At least the Mouse Rocketine or Trebuchet and Wooden Base with Target, but preferably a stronger Weapon and/or Base.
    At least Marble Cheese.

Welcome to Whisker Woods!
The strange mice of this region seem to have taken on characteristics from the surrounding wildlife. One particular nasty Cyclops mouse may hold the key to traveling further into the woods…

Mice Populations

Here is a breakdown of the populations of mice in the location based upon cheese used (these results come from our survey); the values given are a percentage of all attractions, and how many of these mice you are likely to attract in 100 hunts using base attraction:

(Please note, results with less than 1,000 hunts submitted have a low level of accuracy and should be used as guidelines only)

Mouse
Cherry
Bear ~28%
Black Widow ~0%
Chameleon ~20%
Cherry ~10%
Cyclops ~8%
Dwarf ~0%
Eagle Owl ~1%
Elven Princess ~0%
Foxy ~0%
Frog ~0%
Moosker ~0%
Shaman ~14%
Sylvan ~0%
Treant ~20%
Wiggler ~0%

Hunts Submitted 108
Base Attraction Rate ~93%

The difference in attraction rate between Brie and Swiss isn’t that much, so Swiss seems to be a more economical choice in the Calm Clearing.

Cherry cheese is required for hunting the Cherry Mouse, and also attracts more of the stronger mice in this location. As a result it can offer much better returns for experienced hunters in this location.

Goals

Here is a selection of Goals that a hunter may like to achieve:

Catch a Cyclops Mouse with the Map

The Cyclops mouse drops the map to the Great Gnarled Tree, but the mouse is uncommon and one of the most difficult mice in this location.
Getting more powerful trap components will definitely help you in this goal.

What you need most of all with the Cyclops is patience, expect to use several hundred pieces of cheese to catch one.

Cherry Cheese can be used to attract more Cyclops mice, however getting the potions requires that you either catch a Cyclops mouse or an Eagle Owl mouse. You may find that in the process of hunting for Cherry potions you also aquire the map.

Collect Splintered Wood

The Treant mouse drops splintered wood as loot, which has a variety of uses later in the game.
There’s no specific strategy to catching this mouse, but it is the best location at this stage of the game to collect this loot.

Best Location for a Journeyman to Hunt

Often it is debated whether a Journeyman should hunt in the Mountain or the Calm Clearing while they are trying to increase their rank.
Personally I believe the best path through Journeyman is to hunt in the Mountain until your goals are completed there, then move to the Calm Clearing.
The Calm Clearing has slightly more to offer in terms of Points, Gold and Loot, so is probably the best use of a Journeyman’s time.

Catch a Cherry Mouse

The Cherry Mouse is probably the most difficult mouse to catch in this location.

First you will need to acquire some Cherry Cheese, to do this you will need to collect Cherry Potions from either Cyclops or Eagle Owl mice, both of which are strong and quite rare.

Once you have the cheese you’ll find that that the Cherry Mouse isn’t too common, expect to have to use on average 10 pieces of Cherry Cheese for a Cherry Mouse attraction.

This goal is one that hunters might like to return to later on once they have acquired a stronger tactical trap.
