Catacombs
Deep below the cursed soil of the Mousoleum are underground caverns that stretch to the west where long-forgotten mice roam. These powerful mice are highly resistant to most types of damage and apparently have a weakness for Radioactive Blue cheese. The creatures of the Catacombs seem strangely organized, as if they are preparing for something. Who knows what sinister secrets a hunter may uncover here…?
Overview
The Catacombs is the first location in the Bristle Woods region and offers some fantastic gold and points returns for those hunters with the right trap.
Fortunately the first of those traps is available to be purchased here.
The Obelisk of Slumber will outperform most Shadow traps in this location, and allow you to collect some of the more useful mice here. It can also be upgraded later to make the Arcane Capturing Rod of Never Yielding Mystery (more commonly known as the ACRoNYM) which is an awesomely powerful trap that turns this location into a real gold mine.
Hunters are advised to use Radioactive Blue in this location. For potentially greater profits, a hunter could use Ancient cheese, but it’s generally advised to save that for the Forbidden Grove.
The Keeper mouse in this location drops the map to the Forbidden Grove, along with the much rarer Front Cover of Plankrun’s Journal.
Requirements
To hunt in the Catacombs a Hunter must have:
A Hunter’s Title of at least
Legendary.
The Mousoleum Restoration Patch from the Cartographer in the Bazaar.
And it is recommended that a Hunter should have:
An Arcane Weapon.
Radioactive Blue Cheese.
Hunting Tips by Larry
Zounds! And I thought the Mousoleum was creepy!
The mice that wander these catacombs are older than Gnawnia itself, so old they have been long forgotten! Hunting forgotten mice is incredibly challenging since they have few known weaknesses. You will need Radioactive Blue cheese to attract the mice of the Catacombs.
Forgotten mice can be caught using a Shadow trap but you will find that an Arcane trap works even better. Visit the Trapsmith here to purchase the Obelisk of Slumber — an Arcane trap with a minty fresh scent! You may also want to browse the General Store, which stocks a couple of very interesting blueprints detailing how to build even more powerful Arcane traps.
Located deep within the Catacombs is a hallway too dark to navigate. Hunters often speak of Keeper mice wandering down the corridor using a magical candle to light the path. Acquiring this candle will no doubt allow you to do the same!
The Catacombs is one of the most dangerous places to hunt. You’ll want to upgrade to more powerful Arcane traps as soon as possible!
New Mice
There are 8 new mice in the Catacombs that a hunter won’t have encountered before, most of these mice can be found in other locations.

Hunters entering the Catacombs for the first time may wish to use Radioactive Blue, as it is cheaper and generally attracts weaker mice.
As hunters gain better Arcane traps they may wish to switch to using Ancient cheese as Ancient cheese attracts only a limited number of the mice found in this location.
Both Radioactive Blue and Ancient attract a similar population of Skeleton mice, so the Antiskele charm can be used effectively with either cheese.
Setup Options
Here we present you with a selection of results from our survey to give you an idea of how well the various setups work, and what sort of results you may expect to see when using them. Please remember, if you do not see the setup you are interested in here, it is because we do not currently have enough hunts submitted with that setup. Please submit your hunts to our survey, and encourage others to do so too.

Goals
Here is a selection of Goals that a hunter may like to achieve:
Catch a Keeper Mouse with the Candle
The Keeper Mouse is not a common mouse in the Catacombs, but fortunately neither is it particularly rare.
Patience and an Arcane trap will eventually allow you to catch this mouse.
Obelisk of Incineration or Slumber?
This is an often asked question: if a hunter can craft the Obelisk of Incineration, is it worth doing so?
The Obelisk of Incineration is a better weapon, but its not significantly better.
The chances are, you won’t be using it long enough to make back the gold invested in crafting it.
Also, using scrap metal to craft the Obelisk of Incineration could delay your crafting of the Arcane Capturing Rod of Never Yielding Mystery, something you do not want to do.
Should a Legendary Hunter craft the ACRoNYM, or the Ship?
Many hunters wonder whether they should use their scrap metal to craft the ACRoNYM or the Ship first.
Personally I believe this comes down to how much gold you have.
Hunters with a large stash of gold (over 1 million), can probably go ahead and craft the ship.
Hunter with less than that would probably benefit from crafting the ACRoNYM first.
The ACRoNYM enables a hunter to collect very healthy gold returns when hunting, and increase the chances of collecting scrap metal.
The S.S. Huntington II is a very expensive location to set up in, so hunters will want to make sure they have a decent amount of gold beforehand.
Charms to use
The Antiskele charm can be used to great effect in the catacombs, driving away the Skeleton mice and allowing a hunter to focus on either more valuable mice or those with more loot.
