Catching a Mouse
This is part of the Mechanics of MouseHunt series of articles, go here for the main article.
Once a mouse has been attracted to a trap it is time to determine if the mouse is caught.
Each mouse has a power type, based upon what sort of mouse it is, the description of the mouse will tell you what power type it is. Each mouse also has a hidden power value to determine how easy or hard it is to catch, a descriptive value for this power can be seen on the Mice page of MouseHunt.
First the power of the trap is compared to the power of the mouse. The power of the trap may be affected based upon it’s type in comparison to the type of the mouse. See the article on Effectiveness of Power Types for more information about this.
I believe the power of the trap and mouse are compared in a simple ratio to determine a percentage chance of catching the mouse. The same ratio can currently be seen in use in HitGrab’s other game MythMonger.
Should the power of the trap fail to catch the mouse, then there is a second chance for the trap to catch the mouse using luck instead of power. The luck of the trap is not affected in the same way as power is by the type of mouse, which means that there is always a chance to catch a mouse with the luck of the trap, this is most noticable in the case of the Acolyte. I believe the luck of the trap is squared, meaning that even a slight boost to luck can make a large difference in catching the mouse.
