Database submissions
I’ve recently set up an online database for submission of hunts to us. We use these submissions for a variety of purposes:
- Tools: The Catch Rates tool, the Best Locations tool and the Best Setup Generator derive their statistics from your submissions.
- Analysis: In the past, this has been slightly limited, but with the new format of the database, and the ease of use that we now have, it will be much easier for us to create detailed comparisons and analysis of different setups, cheese and locations. For example, we could find publish our findings on different setups in the Laboratory, allowing you to figure out which setup you want to use to get closer to your personal goals(i.e. More gold, more points, a particular mouse etc)
Without further ado, here’s a quick step-by-step tutorial on how to submit your hunts to us:
- Step 1: Navigate to the Log Summarizer. Either you can copy and paste your journals from the MouseHunt Camp page into the summarizer, or you can use the MouseHuntizer to auto-post the journals.
- Step 2: Enter your cheese cost and click ‘Fling the Poo’. A summary with very useful data will appear below. Read it, and interpret it as you wish.
- Step 3: Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see 6 dropdown boxes. Select your trap, base, title, location, cheese and the status of your Golden Shield. Please note that for log submissions, we prefer hunts from only one location. To separate mixed hunts, use the Log Parser.
- Step 4: Once you’ve selected the options from the 6 dropdown boxes, click ‘Submit’. You’ll be taken to a confirmation page, telling you that the data has been submitted. And you’re done – its as easy as that!
If you want to see a screencast of the process, here’s a video:
Both types of submission are covered – from 0:0 to 1:00 is copy-paste, and from 1:15 to 1:59 is auto-post.
I also wanted to clear up a few common misconceptions: We don’t just want hunts for irregular setups(like Rumble in the Meadow) – we want as many hunts as you can submit from any location. Each submission, be it 10 hunts or a thousand, adds to the database, and helps us. We need large samples for each setup – we can’t analyse 50 or 60 hunts! 20 hunts from 50 people gives us 1000 hunts – large enough for a study.
Thanks for stopping by and reading this – we appreciate you taking the trouble to submit your hunts. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, you can leave them in the comments section below, or on our fan page on Facebook.
The home page for the tools can be found here.

I’ve been submitting every since I learnt about your site. :D
I’ve been sending a few hundreds hunts your way, which is easy to do using Mousehuntizer. Now could we have access to the database ?
