Effectiveness of Power Types

When hunting with a certain type of trap, hunters will often get the message “My trap was very effective” or “My trap was less effective”, while useful to know, it doesn’t tell us anything about what the bonus or penalty is so we can make an informed decision about whether we should be using that trap or a different one.

After comparing the mouse difficulties, I believe these are the modifiers, the mice have been classified into groups, see the bottom of this post for which mice are in which group:

Mouse Type (Group) Trap Type
Physical Shadow Tactical Arcane Hydro Forgotten Draconic
Physical 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 0% 0%

These values are derived from the difficulties found on the Mice pages.

Please note, these modifiers only affect the power of a trap, not the luck, so it is still possible to catch any mouse on the luck of a trap alone.

  1. I like this chart!

  2. Good example, but, why does a physical trap have 0% effectiveness against Ghost Mice? I usually hunt there with the PartyBot!

    Cheers.

  3. Paul Humphreys says:

    Cosmin,

These modifiers only affect the power of the trap, not the luck, which is why you can catch a reasonable number of Ghosts with the PartyBot.

I’ll put something in the article to clarify that.

    Thanks
    Paul

  4. The mice on the tribal isles seem to overaw all traps that are not of their power types.

  5. Paul Humphreys says:

An update will be going through shortly.

  6. so then, is it impossible for me to catch a dwarf mouse if my acronym has, for example, 0 luck? just trying to understand the mechanics.

  7. Paul Humphreys says:

Jeremy, if you were to use something like the OoS and explosive base without a golden shield you should not catch any Dwarf Mice.

  8. hmm… so if i wanna go lagoon to get the hydra with blue prints, i should use my swiss army with explosive? or ambush or dehydration? i have these

  9. Arcane 0% 0% 0% 0% 0%

Arcane only catches things using luck? Apparently, you must multiply it’s power by 0(%) against anything, giving a result of 0. So no matter what, it’s power is effectively.

    I am reallly confused.

  10. Paul Humphreys says:

Adam, the Best Setup Generator should help you with this.

  11. Paul Humphreys says:

DST, I believe you’re confusing the Arcane mouse type, with the Arcane trap type.

  12. So which setup should be used when hunting the arcane mice?

  13. Paul Humphreys says:

Sean, from the best information we have at the moment, if you’re specifically after the Acolyte and don’t mind missing all the other mice there, you should use your luckiest trap, however many prefer to use the ACRoNYM as it’s the best trap for the area and has decent luck.

  14. What formula do you use to calculate the cate rate for a particular mouse? I want to see if I should get the Rhinobot over the Partybot, and also if Tribal Base gives a significant advantage over the Polar base.

I read your article on Luck, and using the Chance of Catch = (Trap Power/(Trap Power + Mouse Power)) + (Luck Power/(Luck Power + Mouse Power)) formula seems to suggest that Partybot/Aqua performs better than Rhinobot/Polar and Rhinobot/Tribal. I am not taking into account attraction bonuses here, just raw Trap Power and Luck power of each trap combination, active Golden Shield and a mouse power of 10,000. Am I doing something wrong here?

  15. Oh ok, I noticed a mistake in the formula I used – I did not take (1-(Trap Power Catch Rate))(Luck Catch Rate)

  16. Hi, I am in a bit of trouble, and hope you can help me out… I have spent 200 RB to try to catch the Lycan Mouse, but I did not, he gets attracted to the trap but so far I have always failed to cath him, on the other hand being in the mousoleum has been a nightmare, my cheese gets stolen allmost 6 out of 7 times, the attraction rate is almost perfect, but I seem to catch only 3 or 4 mice a day, which can hardly compensate the expenses of making RB cheese.

I am planning to leave the Moz and go to GGT, but I need 20 Radioactive Sludge to convert the VMT into the MVMT… so far I only got 4… so I would be very grateful if you could guide me on to…

    1. Is there any other posibility for increasing my catch rate in the Moz????, particulary the Lycan???

    If not

    2. What is the best option to obtain Radioactive Sludge??? (was thinking of a stale trap, in a location where RB is not the best choice).

Thank you, please get back as soon as possible.

  17. can you please put up the values for the draconic power type i.e. ice maiden trap

  18. OH sorry !! didn’t see it

  19. Sorry, but i think there’s a mistake with the chart. Tactical and hydro traps should not have 100 percent damage against the physical mice in Derr Dunes (Tribal (Easy)).

  20. Never mind i realised my mistake. I had thought the likes of mintaka was tribal easy. Sorry.

  21. Oops i realised its my mistake. Sorry, i thought the likes of Mintaka etc. were in Tribal Easy.

  22. Kathy Hitzfelder says:

Please compare the Shadow Bottomless Grave with the Arcane ACRoNYM for catching
Non-Jungle Shadow mice. (I do not have the Tribal Base yet). Everyone says ACRoNYM, but Wiki and your charts seem to differ. Thank you for all your hard work.

  23. Kathy Hitzfelder says:

Was it a mistake to buy the Bottomless Grave?

  24. Leigh Lorriman says:

Great chart but I just want to make sure I’m reading it right. At what point should the modifiers be added? Before or after the base power is included? For example:

Ambush (tactical) has 3000 power + 5% bonus
Chrome DrillBot (physical) has 3900 power + 20% bonus
Gingerbread base has 225 power + 8% bonus

Normally, the game would show total power of 3644 for Amb+GB and 5280 for CDB+GB.

Against a Captain Mouse (tactical), your chart has a modifier of 175% for Ambush and 100% for CDB.

If your modifiers are added at the end this would mean effective powers of 6377 (=3644 x 175%) and 5280.

Or, is it trap power that’s modified, then base added, and finally bonuses? This would give powers of 6187 (=3000 x 175%, then plus 225, then total increased by 13%) and 5280.

Either way, Ambush is substantially more powerful than CDB but pooflinger’s stats still favour the CDB. Am I using your chart wrong or is it all down to the difference in luck?

    Thanks.

  25. I’ve yet to get to the Tribal Isles, but when I open the page showing the mice there (by directly entering the URL http://apps.facebook.com/mousehunt/adversaries.php?rid=7 ) with the Sinister Portal equipped, the difficulty values I see don’t quite agree with the above table.

Most of the mice which I haven’t discovered yet say “You have yet to discover a location that this mouse resides in.” and are listed as “near impossible”.

However, Pinchy carries the same message, but has the “overpowering” difficulty, and the dragon is listed as “overawing”.
Seeing as Shadow traps are supposed to be 0% effective vs most of the mice in the Isles, is this just a bug on the part of MH (carrying power type data over from the region I’m in, Burroghs), or does the shadow column of the table above need to be reviewed?
