Mechanics of MouseHunt

MouseHunt is a complex game with plenty of involving strategies, one of our aims at MouseHunt Analytics is to try and understand how the game actually works, what all the numbers mean, and how that can be used to develop better strategies.

Most of the information you’ll see here is theories used to explain what we see in the game, unless stated otherwise we have no confirmation if any of this is correct, but it represents our best understanding at the time.

We hope that a clearer understanding of how the game works will allow you to make decisions in the game that benefit you, there’s plenty of “myths” and superstition about what you can do to improve your odds of catching a certain mouse, and as the game is based upon randomness, many people are willing to try something strange in the hopes of changing their luck with the game. As we go along, we’ll try to dispel some of these myths for you, as many harm rather than help the hunter.

Even if you’re not interested in number crunching or game mechanics, it’s probably worth reading the overview of each stage just to clarify some important ideas.

Hunting Sequence

Each hunt is broken down into a number of stages that follow from one to the next, together these are known as the Hunting Sequence and represent all that happens in the seemingly simple action of going on a hunt.

At each stage in the Hunting Sequence you have the opportunity to maximise your performance, in one aspect of the hunt, but doing so may harm your performance in another stage, often a good balance is the key to giving you the best results from your hunting.
