Helping you to hunt more effectively

Rockstar Hunting

Well it’s coming up to a week since the release of Rockstars and thanks to everyone who has submitted their results to the survey we’re now able to do some preliminary results to help you catch even more of these mice.

Edit: There’s only a few days to go before Rockstars disappear, and some people still need to catch one, or catch one with the right loot, so these figures have been updated with the latest results.

Because I’ve seen a lot of questions on the forums about this, we’re going to explain every step needed to catch these mice.

Collecting Rockforth

Before you can hunt for Rockstars you’re going to need to collect Rockforth cheese, this is only available in Ronza’s Traveling Shoppe, so you’ll need to hunt there. Most traps will work well, with the exception of the Ice Maiden and the Ancient Box Trap.

The best cheese to use is SUPER|brie+, if you don’t have some, it’s worth getting it from the trading forums right now as it’s hovering at about the 1,000 gold per piece mark (if that seems pricey, see the figures at the bottom of this article).

Why SUPER|brie+? Well there are only three mice in Ronza’s Travelling Shoppe that drop Rockforth, the Gold, Diamond and Nibbler. The Gold and Diamond mice can be attracted with most cheese, but you’ll be lucky to see a Nibbler without SUPER|brie+.

The Gold and Diamond mice normally drop a number of pieces of Rockforth equal to their weight in ozs., but on average, the Nibbler drops about 4 times it’s weight in Rockforth, and they seem to range up to about 5oz, which is a potential 20 Rockforth from each Nibbler.

I haven’t seen a single Gold, Diamond or Nibbler mouse fail to drop Rockforth (they might, but I haven’t seen it), so don’t worry about maxing your luck for getting the loot, just use your best trap. Due to numerous comments on this subject, it’s obvious that you can have mice fail to drop loot, but it doesn’t seem to be common enough to worry about.

Once you’re happy with the amount of Rockforth you have (remember that it’s capped at 999 pieces) it’s time to put it to good use.

Where to use Rockforth

There are six potential locations for you to use your Rockforth cheese, and in each location it has a similar attraction rate to Brie (which isn’t too bad).

Below I’ve included a table that shows how likely you are to attract a mouse (this is base attraction, attraction bonuses will improve this), what the Rockstar Population of mice attracted is, the chance of you seeing a Rockstar (Attraction multiplied by Population, the higher this is, the more likely you are to catch a Rockstar), and what type of satchel you could get from the Rockstar.

Location Sample Size Attraction Population Chance Satchel
Town of Gnawnia 854 85.43% 18.16% 15.51% Red
Mountain 124 87.31% 19.82% 17.31% Red
Great Gnarled Tree 4,089 87.56% 23.49% 20.57% Blue
Town of Digby 2,839 87.01% 23.86% 20.76% Blue
Training Grounds 368 80.97% 27.72% 22.45% Blue
S.S. Huntington II 3,697 75.33% 6.83% 5.14% Green

So in summary, hunting in any of the areas that drop a Blue Satchel seems to be your best chance of catching a Rockstar, but if you’re after a Green Satchel for the better contents, you’re going to catch less Rockstars. Please note, I’ve included all areas for comparison, but those areas with a low number of hunts tend to be very inaccurate.

Gold Returns

I mentioned earlier that I thought using SUPER|brie+ in Ronza’s Travelling Shoppe was worthwhile, so I’d better back that up with something.

This is going to depend greatly on which trap you use as to what kind of returns you can expect to see, but as a general rule of thumb consider this, someone with a decent setup could make about 550 gold per cheese when using SUPER|brie+ in Ronza’s Travelling Shoppe.

Doesn’t sound too good, but they’re also likely to get about 1.6 Rockforth per cheese in loot, using Rockforth in the Great Gnarled Tree can bring in about 750 gold per cheese, combine all of that together and it means your SUPER|brie+ can earn you about 1,750 gold per piece.

Now that’s not a bad return on the current price of 1,000 gold per piece, not only this, but you’re also earning additional loot along the way, the contents of the Satchel could be additional gold, and there’s plenty of other things to pick up as well.

Well I hope that helps you over the next week or so of the Rockstars being around. Happy Hunting!

  3. Just thought I’d show you a gold mouse I caught this morning that did not leave rockforth:

    9:00am
I checked my trap and found that I had caught a mouse! I caught a 4 oz. Gold mouse from the Ronza’s Traveling Shoppe worth 597 points and 1,204 gold.

  4. Not all gold or diamond drop loot, I have had several who forgot to leave loot.

  5. Many of my friends with low luck traps have caught multiple gold and diamond mice that have no looted and even I have done so. I’d rather have good luck in ronz than high power. Good attraction is necessary as well

  6. Humberto Sagarnaga says:

This morning I had a 6oz. Diamond mouse @ Ronza’s without loot… it’s VERY rare to have this bad luck, but it’s definitely possible

  7. I have gotten multiple gold and diamond mice without loot drops.

  8. FYI, I caught a Gold mouse that didn’t drop anything @ Ronza’s a couple days ago. Needless to say I wasn’t happy about it. It’s gone from my journal now or I’d provide a screenshot for the nonbelievers. :-)

  9. In regard to Gold Mice not dropping Rockforth, my wife caught one this morning at Ronza’s shop that did not drop any cheese, so yes it is possible to not get any while still catching a diamond mouse or gold mouse.

  10. @dilligaf
The best trap setup can be found using the best setup generator, Rockstar mice are in there, it will give you an answer depending on what traps you have access to.

Generally most traps can be used with the two exceptions mentioned in the article.

    @Gimmy
Even with the low populations, it’s still not that uncommon to see 3 in a row on the ship, it’s just a better chance in other locations.

  11. Julio Rosenblatt says:

    Great stuff as always Paul!

It’s probably worth pointing out that with only 26 hunts submitted from the Training Grounds, that data in particular is highly unreliable, and in general the differences in percentages within the various groups of satchel type are well within the margin of error. That is to say, it is statistically possible that all three locations that drop the blue satchel, TG, Digby and GGT, have the same percentage chance of encountering a Rockstar mouse, and it is my strong suspicion that this is actually the case. The same can be said for the locations where a red satchel is dropped, i.e., ToG and Mountain. Of course without enough data we can’t know for sure.

So let’s keep submitting data – especially for TG and Mtn!

  12. Ahh, I wish I’d seen this before I’d gotten demoralised at SSH! XD Moving to Digby then..

  13. will rockstar mice still be available for catching after ronza leaves?

  14. Paul Humphreys says:

We’ve been told Rockstars will be available for a short time, but we don’t know if that will be a matter of hours or longer.

  15. So glad someone finally pointed out why using SB at ronza’s is rather profitable in the long run, got tired of explaining it lol.

  16. No info on which satchel is most likely to drop a Ronzaburger?

  17. Paul Humphreys says:

    @RGm
I’m afraid I haven’t been collecting those stats, I know there’s a thread on the MH forum for it, but I don’t know if anyone has done an analysis.

  18. The diamond and gold mice drops 1 rockforth cheese per ounce. I checked over my data and it confirms this.

  19. Is it possible to catch rockstar after ronza leaves?

  20. Is it true that when ronza leaves, the rockstar mice leaves as well?

  21. The news ticker is announcing that after Ronza leaves, there will be a limited number of Rockstars available.

  22. I caught a Rockstar on the Mountain at 8:00 a.m. EST this morning.
Dropped a Red Satchel and 3 SB.

  23. Hi, not to sound like a smartass but shouldn’t one-way ANOVAs be done before making assumptions? I’m a stats student and i’m curious so please correct me if i’m wrong.

  24. is it still possible to hunt for rockstar after ronza has gone?
I still have alot of rockforth cheese left, and would like to do some hunting with it.

  25. I checked my trap and found that I had caught a mouse! I caught a 5 oz. Toy mouse from the Festive Comet worth 496 points and 505 gold.

    I sounded the Hunter’s Horn.
I was successful in my hunt! I caught a 4 oz. Christmas Tree mouse from the Festive Comet worth 2,597 points and 1,204 gold.

    I sounded the Hunter’s Horn.
I was successful in my hunt! I caught a 4 oz. Toy mouse from the Festive Comet worth 497 points and 504 gold.

I didn’t get the Twelve Litres off Egg Nog.

  26. Have you got a strategy to attract and trap the Rockstar Mouse now that he’s also attracted by brie and Super|Brie+ in the celebration of the 2nd Birthday of MouseHunt?? I just can’t attract him at Town of Gnawnia…. Someone has any suggestions????? Thanks

  27. @Metafaniel
Maybe you could use Brie and some normal physical type traps but if I’d think the best trap could be the Digby Drillbot if you don’t have SB+.
If you have SB+, you could try making a Rhinobot but remember :
These traps are expensive and require you to have a high amount of points.
If you’re still at a low rank or have not much gold you could buy traps like Swiss Army Mouse Trap.
It could take long with weak traps, but it can save you gold. My friends caught the Rockstar Mouse with Swiss Army Mouse Trap and Brie, so try this combination.
P.S. This is also a suggestion for getting the part dropped by Rockstar Mouse to create the Nannybot.
The Nannybot is used for catching the Terrible Twos Mice.
